Derby County goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith has said that the players were ‘disappointed’ after their 0-0 draw with Cambridge United on Saturday afternoon.
The Rams were frustrated by a resilient Cambridge side, with Mark Bonner’s men managing to hold off the Rams’ attacking threat, with Derby having 12 shots to the U’s four.
Wildsmith said that it was two points dropped as the Rams remain outside the play-offs, three points off in 12th position.
“It’s two points dropped, really,” Wildsmith told RamsTV. “The performance was there, it was just the chances that we didn’t take. The lads are disappointed. It’s one of those games that we dominated from start to finish, created chances but it’s two points dropped at the end of the day.
“It’s difficult when teams come here when they have a gameplan of sitting in and putting players behind the ball. It’s difficult to break down at times but we know we’ve got enough quality to break through teams and create chances – and we created chances today.
“As much as it is difficult, we’ve got the ability to create those chances and on another day we would take them. We’ve got enough confidence and ability in the changing room to do that.”
Wildsmith says keeping clean sheets could be key
Despite a frustrating draw, Wildsmith praised the defence in front of him, as the Rams kept their third clean sheet in a row.
“It’s nice to have a steady back four and people building relationships and that’s showing with the clean-sheets, but it’s a team effort. If we can build on the clean-sheets and turn games like today into wins then we can really start climbing up the league and put some pressure on.”
