A journalist has now issued an update on Derby County star Nathaniel Mendez-Laing after Derby’s 3-0 win over Barnsley on Saturday afternoon.
The Rams battered the Tykes and were comfortable all game, with James Collins scoring a brace after his hat-trick in midweek, and Craig Forsyth also getting in on the goal scoring action.
The Guatemala international was substituted off early into the second half, hobbling off after going down off the ball. Kane Wilson was his replacement.
Curtis gives update on star winger
Journalist for the Derby Telegraph, Leigh Curtis, gave an update on the status of Mendez-Laing when he posted on his X account (formerly known as Twitter), saying:
“Derby are to check on Nathaniel Mendez-Laing who came off with a knee injury. He was not going away with Guatemala anyway because Derby don’t have to release players for friendlies. Shame he had to come off because he was excellent.”
Losing Mendez-Laing is a big blow
Whilst Derby have been going through a tricky patch with a lot of fans wanting manager Paul Warne out, Mendez-Laing has been a shining star.
The 31-year-old has been in inspiring form of late, scoring in all of his last four games before Barnsley.
The £4.9k-a-week star has recently spoken about his own form, saying he is ‘buzzing’ with his brilliant form of late.
With Derby having struggled to score goals as of late, Mendez-Laing’s form was a shining light of hope that the Rams can start to put the ball in the back of the next on a more regular basis.
They now seem to be getting the hang of that though, after scoring in 13 goals in their last four games in all competitions.
This has been a massive boost for Warne, who has previously spoken out on his ‘frustration’ with Derby not putting away many of the chances they create.
