Derby County suffered defeat at the hands of League Two Barrow on Tuesday night.

Derby County travelled to Barrow in the second round of the Carabao Cup, following their first round win vs Chesterfield.

But the Rams were humbled by a stubborn Barrow side who eventually won the game on penalties.

Paul Warne’s side were poor on the night. Rams fans on social media criticised the worrying lack of control and poor passing against lower league opposition.

But defeat in the cup means that Warne can place all his focus on league duties, with another tough clash coming up in the Championship this weekend.

Derby County face Bristol City, and Warne says that Ben Osborn and Eiran Cashin may be absent for another round of fixtures.

Elsewhere, Josh Vickers has also picked up an injury, joining the likes of Jake Rooney and Corey Blackett-Taylor on the sidelines.

And in the game vs Barrow, summer signing and new fan favourite Kenzo Goudmijn was brought off at half-time.

Paul Warne discusses potential Kenzo Goudmijn injury at Derby County

Derby County signed Goudmijn from AZ Alkmaar this summer.

And the midfielder made an immediate impression, with Derby County fans wowed by Goudmijn during the opening day defeat vs Blackburn Rovers.

He’s so far started every game for Derby County this season. The 22-year-old is yet to finish a game though, coming off at half-time of the game vs Barrow.

Warne told the club: “Kenzo Goudmijn took a hit early on, so he had to come off.”

Derby County manager Paul Warne may have juggling act vs Bristol City

If Goudmijn isn’t able to feature this weekend then it’ll certainly give Warne a bit of selection headache, with the likes of Osborn potentially missing out too.

Expect David Ozoh to step into the XI, and a possible start for Wolves signing Tawanda Chirewa, with options all of a sudden looking quite light for Warne.

It also sheds light on a possible lack of depth and quality in the first-team squad at Pride Park, which will need to be addressed before the summer transfer window slams shut on August 30th.

Thankfully, Goudmijn’s injury doesn’t seem too serious, and the Dutchman will be hoping to return to the XI this weekend and continue his strong start to the season.

He gives Derby a real edge in midfield and if Warne can figure out how to best utilise his strengths in this Derby County side, then he’ll have a real game-changer on his hands.
