Derby County will be hoping to tie up the future of one brilliant Derby County star.
The Rams’ start to the season has seen them float around the mid-table spots in the Championship, something that would undoubtedly lead to a successful season if Paul Warne’s side can maintain it.
Derby County have had several top performers up until this point, with the new signings taking the centre-stage.
Rams midfielder David Ozoh has put in several emphatic showings alongside Kenzo Goudmijn in the centre-of-the-park, whilst Ebou Adams and Ben Osborn have also shown some brilliant performances.
However, there is one Rams player that has been incredibly consistent throughout the 2024/25 season, popping up with crucial goals and putting in some heroic defending, and he is one that Warne has revealed that ‘decisions’ around his future will be made soon with his contract set to expire at the end of the campaign.

Paul Warne gives verdict on Curtis Nelson future at Derby County
Rams defender Curtis Nelson has been in ‘fine form’ for Derby County so far in the 2024/25 Championship campaign, and has become ever-present in the back four, often alongside Eiran Cashin at centre-back.
However, the Derby County hierarchy may need to show a sense of urgency to make sure that the defender sticks around for the following season with his deal set to expire this summer.
Warne was questioned at a recent Derby County fans conference about the centre-back’s future, via Dominic Dietrich on X, to which he replied: “Curtis [Nelson] has an option on his contract at the end of the season, as always we review the decisions and that will be reviewed soon.”
Curtis Nelson stats proves that Derby County must tie his future down
There is no doubt that the Rams would not be in the same position with Nelson at the back, and the stats clearly point towards that being the case.
Per SofaScore, Nelson has played every single minute so far of the 2024/25 Championship season, scoring two goals and also making a difference in terms of playmaking, with an average of 49.6 touches and 30.2 accurate passes per game.
As for the defensive side, he has played a crucial role in Derby County tallying an impressive four clean sheets in 12 games, recovering an average of 3.2 balls and making 4.8 clearances per game. He also has a positive record in regards to duels won, with it currently sitting at 54%.
It is clear that Nelson has proven to be a solid centre-back at Championship level, and there is no doubt that the incoming ‘review’ of his decision will end with him signing the dotted line.
