Derby County have had a very good start to proceedings in the 2024/25 Championship campaign.

The Rams have started off brilliantly in the 2024/25 Championship season with two wins out of four games, leaving Derby County in 10th position in the league.

Many of their signings have played brilliantly so far this campaign, most in particular those who have been brought in for depth in the centre-of-the-park, with the likes of Kenzo Goudmijn, David Ozoh, Ben Osborn and Ebou Adams.

Both Goudmijn and Ozoh have been brilliant on the attacking front, with them each bagging a goal at Pride Park in order to help Derby County to a 3-0 victory against Bristol City.

Ozoh has almost taken many by surprise with the way he has managed to gel so easily into Paul Warne’s side, and the man who has joined on loan from Crystal Palace is currently sitting second in one particular stat that reflects how brilliant and important he has been so far.

Derby County midfielder David Ozoh ranks second in key Championship statistic

Derby County’s Ozoh, alongside the likes of Goudmijn, Osborn and Adams has thrived at Championship level, both offensively and defensively.

Whilst it doesn’t take a statistician to work out that Ozoh has shone on all levels, delving into the midfielder’s defensive stats just proves his abilities so far.

Sitting one place behind Sheffield United midfielder Vinicius Souza, Ozoh has the second most tackles in the Championship with a staggering 18 so far, with him being just one tackle away from the Blades man, per SofaScore.

David Ozoh will prove to be a crucial part of Derby County’s season

Ozoh’s defensive abilities and capabilities of breaking up play in the centre-of-the-park have been nothing short of mesmerising, and the stats certainly highlight that.

In a Derby County side that is likely to be up against the cosh, a player of Ozoh’s mould is perfect when succumbing the threats of the opposition, and this is especially important under Warne’s current set-up, which sees his side sit back and look to defend when they have a lead under their belt.

The Rams man plays like he has years of experience behind him, and the fact that he is tipped as the best of the several Derby County midfielders, which includes former Premier League man Osborn, is a testament to his abilities, as well as just how well Warne has done to find the youngster.
