Derby County face an even bigger challenge to keep hold of Eiran Cashin in January now.
That’s according to TEAMtalk, who have reported that the Rams defender is now a target for six clubs.
Born in Mansfield, Eiran Cashin joined Derby County’s academy in 2009 and made his professional debut in December 2021.
The ‘outstanding’ youngster signed a new two-year deal with the club following their relegation to League One that saw him earn only £3,300 a week, before he became a regular under Paul Warne and was named the Rams’ Young Player of the Year.
Cashin’s excellent form last season earned him interest from Brighton, who saw multiple bids rejected over the summer for his signature.
While the 22-year-old did look likely to move to the south coast at one point, he ended up staying at Pride Park.
Warne confirmed last month that Cashin would be offered a new contract before his current deal expires next summer, though increasing interest in him may prevent him from putting pen to paper.
According to the report, Brighton will go back in for Cashin next month, however they could also be joined by West Ham, Middlesbrough, Burnley, Sheffield United and Birmingham City in their pursuit.
Cashin’s future could entirely depend on whether he is willing to sign a new contract, as if he isn’t, Derby will be forced to sell up in January rather than losing him for free next summer.
Can Derby County keep hold of Eiran Cashin?
Paul Warne seems pretty adamant that Eiran Cashin will be offered fresh terms, however the closer we get to the January transfer window, the more unlikely it seems that he will sign on.
Derby County really need to have tied him down before new clubs are able to come in for him, otherwise there is a high chance that they will have to take the cash and let him make the jump up to the Premier League.
While The Rams are inside the League One play-off spots, they aren’t guaranteed a place in the Championship next year, while Cashin could instead be playing regularly at the top of the second tier or even the lower end of the Premier League.
Derby County will have to work hard to try and keep him, but they should also be looking for capable replacements in case they lose him right at the end of the month.
