Eiran Cashin will ‘almost certainly’ leave Derby County in the January transfer window.

That’s according to Carlton Palmer, who has claimed that the defender is ‘one of the best’ in League One.

After being named Derby County’s Young Player of the Season last term, Eiran Cashin looked set to quickly seal a move to the Premier League.

Brighton & Hove Albion saw multiple bids rejected for the 22-year-old over the summer and were prepared to pay £4 million for his signature before they ran out of time to get a deal done.

Cashin has continued his impressive form into the current campaign, with the Rams conceding the lowest goal tally in the third tier (16).

His performances haven’t gone unnoticed and TEAMtalk have reported that Brighton are now joined by Birmingham City, Middlesbrough, Burnley, West Ham and Sheffield United in their pursuit.

Cashin’s contract is set to expire next summer, and while Paul Warne has confirmed that he will be offered a new deal, he looks increasingly more likely to leave Pride Park next month.

Speaking to Football League World, Palmer said: “West Ham and Middlesbrough, Burnley are just a few clubs [interested] in signing Eiran Cashin. Brighton almost signed Cashin in the summer, but the deal fell through on deadline day.

“Cashin has been one of the best defenders in League One this season and Derby are key to tie him down to a new deal, but given the interest in Cashin being shown, he almost certainly will leave.

“I think the Republic of Ireland U21 star is well capable of playing in the Premier League and is destined for a very bright future at the highest level in the game.”

How good is Eiran Cashin?

This season, Eiran Cashin has won the most tackles in the squad (34), most interceptions (31), most clearances (91), second-most shots blocked (16), most aerial duels won (88) and has also made the second-most passes (872).

The centre-back is quite clearly an absolute rock for Derby County and one that would be a major loss to the club, but if Cashin doesn’t want to sign a new deal, then it is surely better to lose him for a free than for nothing at all six months later.
