Derby County have come across a ‘complication’ in one of their ongoing transfer pursuits.

Paul Warne has had a brilliant summer in terms of bodies through the door at Pride Park so far, with the signing of Ben Osborn undoubtedly taking the headlines.

The former Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest midfielder has arrived with both Premier League and Championship experience in abundance.

Elsewhere, Warne has brought in further reinforcements in the centre of the park, with Kenzo Goudmijn arriving for a £600,000 fee, whilst Ebou Adams has also joined following his successful loan spell in the 2023/24 season as he significantly contributed to Derby County’s automatic promotion to the Championship.

Derby County have by no means stopped there in his pursuit for extra talent to add to their ranks, however they have come across a ‘complication surrounding a current target in a position that will need to be improved.

Paul Warne issues a negative update surrounding their pursuit for a goalkeeper

Derby County have just one first-team recognised goalkeeper following the release of Joe Wildsmith, who has now joined West Brom, leaving Josh Vickers as the stand-alone shot-stopper.

Warne has made it clear of his desire to bring extra players through after suggesting ‘a goalkeeper or two’ will be needed.

Per Dominic Dietrich on X, Paul Warne said regarding the goalkeeper situation: “There’s been a target in mind for weeks now but, there’s a complication to it which will become very evident once he signs hopefully.

“If not, we have to persevere with another target.”

Derby County have recently been linked with Leicester City goalkeeper Daniel Iversen, as well as Djurgarden goalkeeper Jacob Widell Zetterstrom.

Paul Warne must keep focus on bringing in goalkeeper reinforcements at Derby County

With Vickers as the only senior goalkeeper at the club, Warne is rightly pushing for a new man in-between the sticks.

His approach to the transfer window so far will be refreshing for Derby County fans, who will feel like they are preparing incredibly well for the upcoming Championship campaign.

Warne must make sure that he doesn’t become short-sighted in targeting his next shot-stopper as any snags will mean they should, as he says, ‘persevere with another target’, especially considering the former Rotherham United boss is looking to bring more than one goalkeeper on board.

Providing that the ongoing transfer situation surrounding a goalkeeper does not drag on, Warne looks set to transform his Rams side to one that will definitely be ready for the task of the Championship.
