Forget Jerry Yates, another Derby County star was Paul Warne’s real hero in Coventry City win

Derby County earned a huge 2-1 victory over Coventry City in the Championship on Wednesday evening.

Paul Warne’s men had picked up just two points away from Pride Park prior to kick-off against the Sky Blues.

However, while Derby fans were left frustrated at Warne during the game, it did not really matter as they managed to secure their first away win of the campaign.

Derby beat Coventry 2-1 with Jerry Yates the standout performer after playing a key role in both his team’s goals on the night.

The Swansea City loanee latched onto a loose backpass from a Coventry defender to fire his side into an early lead.

And just as the home side appeared to be gaining a foothold in the match, Yates stepped up once more in the second half, with his attempted cross deflecting into the Coventry net and being awarded as an own goal.

While Yates was excellent in midweek, however, another Derby gem deserves credit for his display.

Ebou Adams was excellent for Derby County vs Coventry City

The man in question was Ebou Adams, who dominated the midfield battle at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

During the game, former player turned Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie dubbed Adams ‘absolutely fantastic’.

And it is easy to see why Hendrie expressed that view when looking at the midfielder’s stats from the game.

Adams was awarded a 7.1 rating by Sofascore, the joint-second highest of the Derby players behind only Yates.

He also made five clearances, one block, three tackles, three interceptions and was dribbled past zero times.

Derby gave the ball away a lot against Coventry but Adams was on hand to ensure their poor passing did not lead to too many chances for the Sky Blues.

Derby County may lose Ebou Adams soon

Adams has been a revelation for the Rams following his summer transfer from Cardiff City.

However, Derby now face the prospect of being without the 28-year-old for an upcoming game.

Adams picked up his fourth yellow card of the season against Coventry, meaning he is now one booking away from suspension.

Derby take on Plymouth Argyle on Saturday and Warne will no doubt be praying the midfielder keeps his nose clean in that clash.
