Former Derby County boss Gary Rowett is a big fan of one Derby County summer arrival.

Derby County’s start to the season has been solid under Paul Warne, with the Rams currently sitting 10th in the Championship after two wins in their first four.

There is very much optimism around the club on how they have managed to perform, particularly at home with two wins in as many games at Pride Park.

Warne’s outfit was massively bolstered with signings throughout the summer, notably the arrivals of Kenzo Goudmijn and David Ozoh in the centre-of-the-park, who both recently scored in Derby County’s most recent Championship victory against Bristol City.

The side will be even further improved with the long-awaited introductions of Marcus Harness and Nat Phillips, and former Rams boss Gary Rowett has highlighted one of the arrivals as a ‘fabulous’ player.

Gary Rowett praises Derby County signing Nat Phillips

Phillips arrived on the final day of the transfer window on loan from European and Premier League giants Liverpool.

He has arrived with plenty of promise after having previously notched several Champions League appearances, alongside having experience in the Championship.

In a column on Derbyshire Live, Rowett wrote: “Towards the end, they’ve added Nat Phillips who knows what this division is all about and a very good centre-back.

“He is fabulous in the air and a real threat of set pieces like he showed last year at Cardiff.

“He was very dangerous and you have to find different ways to score goals. If you can get a centre half to score five or six goals as well as defend fantastically that is an extra weapon in your arsenal. He’s a very good age.

“He’s played for Liverpool and was excellent when they had a lot of injuries. It’s just an excellent signing.”

Derby County’s side will be transformed with the arrival of Marcus Harness and Nat Phillips

Derby County have most certainly started brilliantly in the 2024/25 season, and things will only get better when both Harness and Phillips are slotted into the side.

Harness will prove to be a crucial player for Warne this campaign, especially with the lack of options out wide.

Fellow former Ipswich Town attacker Kayden Jackson has been played out wide whilst the Rams still looked to bring in a winger. With the arrival of Harness, Jackson can then join Jerry Yates at striker following a likely formation change for Warne.

All signs are showing that Derby County are on the way up with their current squad, and with these arrivals there is no reason why Rams fans can’t ponder whether they could look past a relegation-scrapping season and potentially look towards mid-table this season.
