Derby County signing Marcus Harness has spoken about the player that convinced him to join.

Deadline Day for Derby County can safely be considered a success in terms of the names that were brought in to bolster Paul Warne’s squad.

Notably, Nat Phillips arrived in what was a surprise loan move from Liverpool, and the defender has notched several Champions League appearances with the Reds, which as a result has provided excitement to Derby County fans.

The Rams also looked to add an attacker to their side late on, with a deal for Watford attacker Mileta Rajovic being explored in the final hours, however no deal for the Championship striker was able to come into fruition.

Derby County left it late with their final signing, however they managed to get a deal over the line for Ipswich Town winger Marcus Harness, which will necessarily bolster the wide options.

The new arrival has already spoken about his delights to be at Derby County for the 2024/25 season, and he has spoken about the one player that convinced him to join.

Derby County signing Marcus Harness on who convinced him to join

Following his late arrival at Pride Park, Harness mentioned his fellow former teammate at Ipswich Town Kayden Jackson, who also made a move to Derby County this summer from the newly-promoted Premier League outfit.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Harness said: “I spoke to him [Jackson] earlier. We didn’t say much, but I spoke to him a little bit.

“He told me how good it is here, that it would be a good fit for me – and that the team could do with someone like me.

“I’m really looking forward to it. The international break’s here, so I’ll get some time to get to know the lads and stuff, I’m sure, before my first game – it’s going to be a good time.”

Marcus Harness signing was necessary for Paul Warne’s side

As the summer transfer window approached its final hours, there was very much agitation about whether Derby County would be able to complete the signing of the Championship promotion-winning attacker.

Harness certainly has qualities that will massively improve this Derby County side, but he will also provide the absolutely necessary depth needed in the two flanks for the 2024/25 season.

Wide options prior to the signing of Harness consisted solely of Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Tom Barkhuizen, there was little chance that Warne would have been able to fully utilise his wide options this season and with the likes of James Collins and Jerry Yates as striker options, both of which thrive on sufficient service from a winger, it would have been difficult to get the best out of the pair.
