Derby County are keen to add at least one more new player to their ranks this summer.

The summer transfer window slams shut on August 30th.

For teams up and down the country, it’ll be a frantic final week; especially so for Derby County who seem desperate for one or two more new players.

So far this summer, Paul Warne’s side have signed nine new players, with Derby County completing the signing of Jacob Widell Zetterstrom last.

A mixed start to the 2024/25 Championship season has perhaps highlighted one or two gaps in the first-team squad at Pride Park.

One name has been linked of late; Marvin Johnson, but Sheffield Wednesday are unlikely to let Johnson leave this month.

Warne and his Derby recruitment team may have names they’re working on behind the scenes, and he and some of the club’s major figures will meet to discuss the finale of the summer transfer window.

Derby County transfer summit planned with David Clowes in attendance

On Thursday, Warne met with the likes of CEO Stephen Pearce, Head of Recruitment Mark Thomas, and Derby County owner David Clowes.

BBC reporter Dom Dietrich revealed that Derby County were holding a ‘big recruitment meeting’ on Thursday, head of deadline day.

Dietrich also added that Derby County won’t be signing a new striker on permanent deal, but that the Rams are working on a possible deal for a long-term target.

The one thing that Paul Warne needs to add at Derby County

For the Rams, there might not be one glaring void in the first-team right now.

Right-back looks somewhat thin following the injury to Kane Wilson, and centre-back following the injury to Eiran Cashin.

Fans may want to see attacking names arrive, but for Warne, it might simply be a case of adding Championship quality wherever possible.

Whether it’s a defender, midfielder, or an attacker; if Warne can add some proven Championship quality to his ranks then it’ll serve the Rams well going into this new season.

Derby County look as though they could struggle in the Championship but they proved last time out that they’ll certainly put up a fight.

As the games start to come thick and fast though, it’ll really put Warne and Derby to the test, and Warne will want to ensure he has enough depth and quality come then.

Derby County travel to Watford in the Championship this weekend.
